TAWC NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE #2
(April 4, 2011)
TAWC and the District met today for our second round of
negotiations. for the second time, we were privileged to have Kim Breen,
former TAWC President and TAWC Negotiator with over 20 years bargaining
experience as a leader and as CTA Staff, at the table with us. She has
provided invaluable history for the District, as none of them were in our
District at that time, as well as for the rest of the bargaining team. She
also has had much experience negotiating Memorandums of Understanding.
Our first order of business was the 8-Period Day MOU.
The District asked for many clarifications to items that had been explained to
them on 3-30. Following a brief caucus, the District presented to TAWC
their original proposal using the TAWC format. Your negotiation team did
take this duplicate proposal, submitted to us as a counter to our opening
proposal, and delivered a sincere counter after lunch.
TAWC also presented a Retirement Incentive to the
District. They have taken it under advisement and will be discussing this
with the Board. Again, we are hopeful that the District and the Board will
accept our proposal and provide and incentive for those of us who would benefit
from a monetary incentive.
Our final task for the day was to tentatively agree to those
articles that both sides agree shall remain status quo. These will
become part of our final Tentative Agreement.
We do have negotiation dates in April and May -4/15,
4/19, and 5/13.
As always...your team will update you with whatever takes place
with negotiations.
